Holy Week

Monday, 17 Mar, 2008 — by Johnny Hampton

This week is Holy Week.  Back in the day when something crazy would happen we would say "Holy Cow!"  I'm still not sure what that means, but I do know what "Holy Week" means.smile

This week we encourage you to think seriously about the story of Christ - in particular the moments leading up to Christ's death.  Live in those moments, struggle with what it all means, read the Scriptures that walk you through this part of Christ's life (Matthew 21-28; Mark 11-16; Luke 19-25; John 12-21), dwell in the presence of God, and seek a deeper understanding of the story of Christ through prayer.

We have some things in place to help you with your journey this week.  All week long, Monday - Friday from 9am-5pm in the gym at College Church we have a prayer labyrinth set up.  This is an amazing, hour-long experience that helps you discover, confirm, and recharge your journey with God.  Surrounding the labyrinth are the "Stations of the Cross."  Each stop helps you to meditate on one part of Christ's journey through this week.

On Thursday night at 7pm in the Sanctuary we will have a Maundy Thursday Service.  You will encounter "The Living Portrait of the Last Supper."  This is an amazing experience and opportunity to connect with what happened in the upper room 2000 years ago.

On Friday night at 7pm in the Sanctuary we will return to the same scene we left on Friday night and encounter a humbling conversation between Judas and Peter.  This service forces us to come face to face with the realness and sadness of Christ's death.

On Sunday morning at 7am in the Sanctuary we will have a baptism service as we begin celebrating the Resurrection of Christ.  Following the service, there will be a great breakfast served in the gym.  At 9am we will continue our celebration with a service in the Sanctuary followed by a sweet party in the Upper Room.

We hope you find a way to connect with God in a way like never before during this week we call Holy Week.

See you around!
